Bristol Hills Hammock Hang is a relaxed, community-driven gathering for hammock campers of all experience levels, set on the beautiful wooded grounds of 4-H Camp Bristol Hills. Whether you’re brand new to hanging or a seasoned tree-dweller, the Hammock Hang is all about sharing knowledge, swapping stories, testing setups, and enjoying a low-key weekend outdoors with people who love sleeping off the ground as much as you do. Expect informal skill sessions, plenty of time to explore camp, and the kind of campfire conversations that only happen when everyone is a little dirt-happy and well-rested.
The event will take place MAY 29-31, with an estimated registration cost of $25 per person for the weekend. Registration includes access to all scheduled activities and designated hammock-friendly camping areas. For those who prefer a roof (or wheels), optional cabin rentals, bunkhouse accommodations, and RV sites are available for an additional fee. Whether you’re hanging between the trees, pulling in with your camper, or bunking indoors, the Bristol Hills Hammock Hang offers a welcoming space to learn, relax, and connect with the hammock camping community. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The Hammock Hang is built on shared respect, community, and care for the camp and each other. Registration is expected to open on or around February 1, 2026.
The Bristol Hills Hammock Hang is open to anyone curious about hammock camping, from first-time hangers to seasoned backpackers. If you’ve been hammock camping for years and love sharing tips, you’ll fit right in. If you’ve been hammock-curious but unsure where to start, this is a welcoming, low-pressure way to learn. The event is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, backpackers, paddlers, scouts, and campers who enjoy community, learning, and spending a weekend in the woods—no matter what your sleep system looks like.
Participants should plan to bring their own hammock system, personal camping gear, weather-appropriate clothing, and breakfast/lunch food. Headlamps, camp chairs, and a reusable mug are also recommended. A more detailed packing list will be sent to registered participants.
Do I need to have hammock camping experience?
Not at all! Beginners are welcome and encouraged. There will be informal learning opportunities and plenty of experienced hammock campers happy to share advice and help you get set up.
Do I need to bring my own hammock and gear?
Yes and No. Participants who already have their own gear should plan to bring it. If you’re still building your setup, this is a great chance to see different systems in use and learn what works for others. If you don't yet have a hammock setup, you're welcome to stay overnight in a tent, or rent a cabin, bunkhouse space, or bring an RV. We just want to have you join us, however you can.
What accommodations are available?
In addition to hammock camping areas, cabins, bunkhouse lodging, and RV sites are available for an additional fee. Availability may be limited, and advance reservations are recommended. 4-H Camp also provide modern restrooms, showers, hiking trails, recreation fields, and a fishing pond.
Are meals provided?
Dinner will be provided each evening as part of the event. Participants should plan to bring their own breakfast and lunch, along with any snacks or beverages they may want throughout the day. Alcohol is permitted for adults of legal drinking age. This is a family-friendly, community-oriented event, and we ask all participants who wish to drink, to do so responsibly. Behavior that disrupts the welcoming, respectful atmosphere of the Hammock Hang will not be tolerated.
Will there be classes or organized activities?
Yes! The Hammock Hang will feature optional, informal skill sessions and group activities. Participation is always optional—relaxing in your hammock with a good book is equally encouraged. We will have a small slate of presentations prepared, and we invite YOU the guests, to offer classes you feel confident in leading. When you register, just indicate that you'd like to teach a workshop, and we will follow up with you before the event.
Is this a family-friendly event?
Yes. Families are welcome, though all participants should be comfortable spending time outdoors in a rustic camping environment.
Can I bring my pet?
Pets are permitted. Pets must remain on a leash 6' or shorter, and must be under control at all times. Pets that are disruptive to other guests will need to be restrained or their owners will be asked to take the pets home.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The event will take place rain or shine. Part of the fun of hammock camping is learning how to stay comfortable in a variety of conditions.
Im flying in to attend the event, and I can't fly with fuel for my stove. Will there be fuel available for purchase? While we don't expect to have vendors on site, we are inviting guests who are traveling to reserve a fuel canister. One week before the event, we will purchase the reserved number of canisters and they will be waiting for you upon pickup.
