Well Water Sampling Program

Where can I get well water tested?

Follow the steps below and please call our office (585) 394-3977 x 427 or email nea8@cornell.edu, if you have questions. We are open from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Bottles, lab sheet, and instructions are available at Cornell Cooperative Extension Ontario County, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 in the Ag Office.

Step One: Pick up the bottle (s) at Cornell Cooperative Extension Ontario County, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424. These are sterile bottles.

Step Two: Collect the water sample. Follow the directions for taking the sample which are included with the paperwork when you pick up the bottle.. Please use the kitchen tap. The sample must be taken the morning  you deliver it on Wednesday by 9:00 am. Preserve the sample in a chilled cooler (on ice), but not frozen. The lab will reject the sample if it is not cold. A label will be provided for the bottle to print your sampling date, sampling time, and sampling site, and name of the sampler and apply the label to the bottle.

Step Three: Complete the lab form and deliver the water sample. Complete the lab form a sample sheet will be provided. Please record the date and time that you took the sample on the form.

Deliver the lab form and check payable to Lozier Environmental Consulting, Inc. for $51.00 with the bottle of well water to the drop-off point at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY at the Agriculture Office, Room 208. Wednesday before 9:00 am.

Drop off time: Before 9:00 am on Wednesday.

Step Four: The lab will email your results to you and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

The EPA standards for drinking water: total coliform and E. coli is absent.
