Ontario County, NY is a rich and diverse agricultural area. Our fresh water resources are plentiful, our markets are vast and profitable, we have an outstanding rural-urban road and rail infrastructure, and immediate access to some of the best agriculture research facilities in the world.
We do not mind bragging that were are one of the the best places to farm in the United States...and we are home to many progressive and distinguished farm families.
Diversity is our main asset. Dairy, beef, sheep, poultry, swine, cash crops, vegetables, vineyards, orchards, small fruit, nursery and greenhouse farms all play a significant role in the food and agriculture industry in Ontario County.
The annual market value of agricultural products sold from our farms is $205,160,000!
We are home to 833 farms - ranging from very small horse boarding enterprises to large herd dairies that feature robotic milking stations.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County works to support our prosperous agricultural industry through programs that range from laboratory research to the consumer dinner plate.
