Forestry Woods Walk

  • Saturday, July 18, 2026, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Do you own a wooded area? Are you interested in learning how to identify your trees? Would you like to know how to improve your forest health? If you answered yes, plan on joining Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Northwest Regional Master Forest Owner Program on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 9:30 am to Noon. This will be a walk in the woods discussion and demonstration about tree ID, what trees to cull to improve the stand, invasive species, who/where to reach out for help in your woods and other common challenges of owning a woodlot. Please dress appropriately for the weather. We will be at a private forest in the Town of Canandaigua with the landowners; DEC Supervising Forester, Brice June; Northwest Regional Master Forest Owner Program Coordinator, Lydia Willimas; and Cornell Cooperative Extension Educator, Russell Welser. This program is open to anyone, but especially to new forest landowners and military veterans who own forest land.

Coffee, donuts, and water will be available, along with several resources. To register or for additional information, contact Cornell Cooperative Extension at 585-394-3977 x 427 or email Nancy at nea8@cornel.edu

Directions to the forest location will be given upon registration.
