Filing a DBA
“Doing
Business As”
Filing a DBA is one of the first steps to starting any business. It is a way for an individual or business to operate under a name different from their legal name. Filing a DBA allows the business to start taking on an identity of its own with distinct branding and naming. DBAs do offer some form of separation and privacy to the business owner, but in terms of legality it can offer little protection to the business owners assets which can be problematic in the event of a lawsuit or bankruptcy.
