Ontario County Fair Renovations for 2017

There have been lots of renovations being worked on at the fairgrounds for this fair season. 1. The Dairy and Beef barns have had upgrades made to them including new changing areas for exhibitors. 2. Poultry exhibits will be in a tent this year in the area where the show tent used to be. 3. The old poultry exhibit area is being transitioned back to being a show ring for beef and dairy. 4. There is a NEW 4-H DAIRY BAR constructed in the green space that was formally the show ring area. A wonderful group of volunteers have been diligently working on these renovations since last winter. Your thanks to fair board members will be appreciated as you enjoy these changes this summer.

4-H MEMBER AND CLUB NEWS

Are you a teen over 13 who likes science?? Want to help bring a fun program to your local library? This is an opportunity for YOU!!

Cooperative Extension and Cornell University are teaming together this summer for a program working with SCIENCE at local libraries. The Ontario County 4-H Program will work with the NYS 4-H Summer Reading Program this summer to deliver hands-on STEM activities (science, technology, engineering and math) in local libraries. A Cornell Cooperative Extension summer Intern will work with the NYS 4-H STEM Program Work Team to organize engaging activities around the 4-H EARTHQUAKE, Beyond Duck, Cover, and Hold Project. These activities will be implemented with 6-10 year olds throughout local libraries in the Pioneer Library System. A unique aspect of this effort is to recruit, train and provide a leadership experience for 4-H teen leaders, who will lead some of the activities in libraries they select. Here is a great way to put all of your 4-H teen leadership skills to good use while earning your teen leadership hours for your 2017 4-H Achievement Certificate. Trainings are ongoing throughout June & July and our Summer Intern will work around your available hours to match you with a library. Call the 4-H Office (394-3977 Ext. 401) to sign-up!

Gem Fest 2017

A great time to become interested or learn more about rocks and minerals is at the 24th Annual Gem Fest on June 3 and 4 at the Canandaigua Civic Center. It begins at 10 am each day. Come see exhibits, win prizes, do a scavenger hunt and see soap stone carving, wire wrapping and sluice in addition to all the other parts of Gem Fest. More information can be found at www.wcgmc.org

Shooting Sports

Shooting Sports will be held Wednesday, June 7 at the CCE office. We will be going over the new equipment that we have acquired and discuss plans for our exhibit at the fair. We will be setting up practice nights for June and July at this time. Please let Amy know at the office if you are coming or that you are still interested in this activity.
