Tractor Safety

4-H Tractor Safety Certification Program

Spring seems like a long way off but it’s such a busy time of the year we need to start planning now. Our next Youth Tractor Safety Course will begin on February 21st. This year we are holding two sessions of our course over February break; February 21st and February 23rd from 9: 00 am-1:00 pm, the remaining time will be held in the evenings on March 2nd, March 9th, March 16th and March 23rd with our driving test on March 25th.

Any youth, ages 14 to 15 years old, planning on working on any farm other than their home farm must have this certification to be in compliance with the United States Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act. Registration is limited to Ontario County youths on a first come, first served basis; although, youth from surrounding counties may register and participate if space allows. Youth must be age 14 before April 1, 2023 to register. All participants must attend every session and pass the course to earn certification.

The course fee is $40.00 for Ontario County residents and $50.00 for out of county residents. This covers the workbook, videos, demonstrations, and pizza for the two daytime programs. There are several instructors, who have many years of experience that have volunteered their time to teach these youths.

Parents and family members are welcome to attend the first session. An interactive presentation by New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health will be given.
